beach blog virtual 4/21

INTRODUCTION
Some factors that cant affect a profile of a beach is the tide of water coming and leaving causing some sand erosion on the beach. Another factor that can affect beach profile is sand dune build up. From the wind blowing against the dunes creates a higher elevation of sand.

PROCEDURE
  1. Gather tools (transect line, rise tool,  compass, run tool, data sheet, writing utensil GPS,) and get in the vans and leave for the beach.
  2. Find a sand dune on the beach, and take the latitude/longitude coordinates with  the GPS (as point a) and record the given data.
  3.  lay the transect line from point a  perpendicular to the shoreline, going at the water.
  4.  take a reading of Point A showing which exact direction/degree the transect line is going.
  5. put the run tool firmly in the sand pointing down the transect line.
  6. place the rise tool on the other end of the run tool and mark it as point b, and use the level to make it even.
  7. check where the run tool points to on the rise tool. The number it displays is the rise from point a to point b. If the dune angles upward, it should show a negative number. Record the rise  between the two points.
  8. collect further data

Here is Bubbah and our group measuring the sand levels.

Here were stabilizing the poles making sure they are Lever for correct measurement.

Beach Sand Pre-Lab

Intro
Which beach sands react to being mixed with vinegar from Big beach to Wailea beach.

 Question
Will Big beach's Sand react more if mixed with
vinegar than that sand at Wailea beach?
Hypothesis
My hypothesis is that Big beach's sand will
react more in vinegar that the sand at Wailea  Beach.

Materials
Pipette, goggles, cup, Vinegar, sand samples, pen,
Journal, slippers.
Procedure
1. Round up our group and get in our van.
2. Drive over to Big beach and gather samples.
3. Leave big beach and drive to wailea beach.
4. Gather sand samples at Wailea beach and head back to school.
Observations

                                 Big Beach
From the Sand samples we gathered from big beach
we conclude that the sand here is Biogenic and smooth.
When  we added the vinnegar to the Sand, it slightgly fizzed
but did not crackle.

         Wailea beach
From the Sand samples that we gathered from Wailea beach,
we found out that it reacted more to   being mixed with the vinegar.
It not only fizlled loudly but crackled quite loud when mixed with the vinegar.

Conclusion
From all of the evidence that we obtained. I have come to conclude that my hypothesis was shown to be wrong and that the sand from Big beach did not react more that the sand from Wailea beach while being mixed with vinegar.
